Grand Hotel Golf Course

For my 65th Birthday my girlfriend got a package deal on Stay/Golf at the Grand Hotel. WoW... what a treat to stay and play here is any Michigan Golfer's dream vacation. Never will you be treated and taken care of like they do here in the Island.

The Jewel course (9 holes) is located next to the Grand Hotel and was originally built in 1901 and then re-designed by Tom Bendelow in 1918. Then in 1987 Jerry Matthews added his changes that mostly added bunkers and lengthen holes to its current length 2,417yds / Par 33. I know the yardage is short BUT elevating the small fast greens, sand bunkers to fronts give the course a great defense to those that can't hit high approach shots. The number #7 / 245yd / Par 3 from a elevated tee area to a Lower Michigan shaped green (water on 3 sides) will have bogey a normal score here.

The Woods course (9 holes) is located 1.2 miles away and has a nice scenic 25-minute carriage ride to your next adventure. This course was added in 1994 by Jerry Matthews and has narrow fairways cut through the wooded area playing 3,040yds / Par 34. Again, keeping with the smaller size greens and added protection from the sand traps. This course will also demand short iron target golf shots to score low here. The #13 / 361yd / Par 4 has a 180yd water carry to narrow dogleg fairway to hit the corner (RH side) if you want to see par on your scorecard. After finishing, we enjoyed a refreshing drink/food at Bobby's Bar before taking the carriage ride back down to the Grand Hotel.

They have three tee's to choose from: Red 4,212yds / White 4,919yds / Blues 5,457yds for this Par 33/34 layout. I ended up shooting 38/41 w/33 putts on this challenging 18 hole layout from the Blues and if my short game wasn't as tight as it was today....things could have gotten ugly real fast.
